International Seaport with worldwide connectivity and diversified cargoes and trade lanes.

Challenge:  To further develop the Latin American Trade lanes focusing on Brazil, Florida’s number one international trading partner.

Selected Accomplishments:

  • Spearheaded the creation of the Brazil-Jacksonville Alliance of Northeast Florida. Currently the organization has several corporate members including CSX, Gerdau Ameristeel, Gate Petroleum, Mayo Clinic, Holland and Knight, ICS Logistics, TAM Airlines and many others. Successes include the twin signing agreement between Jacksonville and Curitiba, Brazil with the Mayor from Brazil visiting Jacksonville on April 3, 2009, a $55K Workforce Florida Grant Award to train 100 businesses on how to do business with Brazil and creation of Portuguese classes and educational partnerships in Duval and st. Johns Counties.
  • Strategically aligned JAXPORT’s logistical assets in sales presentations to key shipping lines like NYK, Hanjin, Hamburg Sud, APL, Bringer – Kline, including shippers in several industries like food (the largest industry in Latin America), coffee, granite, lumber and more, focusing on logistics benefits via JAXPORT. Strengthened relationships with collaborators, carriers and existing agent force to enhance trade opportunities.
  • Garnered a regional trade support letter from the Associacao Comercial do Parana (ACP) / Parana State Commercial Association comprised of 8,000 members and the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.
  • Developed a logistics package and database geared to help staff and external customers with a quick reference to service providers and important intermodal tools, including reference to weight limits, conversions tables, easy to read information on rates, trade contacts, and supply chain leads.
  • Established new relationships with new private ports in the south region of Brazil including the Port of Navegantes and the Port of Itapoa, opening fall 2009 focusing in development of direct trade lanes between southern Brazil and JAXPORT.
